What do you class as RETRO

a lot of people define retro differently, different games and consoles are classed as retro by different people, so what do you class as retro?

Anything with a square controller....

well there's also the Atari , but you seem to ignore the fact that it exists.

I've never posted in this thread because I'm simply not sure what shoulr be classed as retro. I guess a lot of it has to do with your age, and what was/ wasn't before your time. But I was shocked (and kinda amused) by a person in a game shop the other day. I'm on holidays in England at the moment, and I headed into a games shop in Newcastle and asked the girl behind the counter if they sold any retro games. She repied "Yes, there is a PS2 section over there" pointing to the corner. I was a little bit counfused, and I thought that maybe she didn't understand my Irish accent and wasn't sure what I asked for, so I asked her again. She once again replied "Yes, the PS2 games ar over there!"

Hehe, surely it's a bit early for the PS2 to be classed as a retro console.

I agree. PS2 has only really had one generation of predecessors and in relative terms , the PS2 is still quite new.
But in an ever growing culture of modernization, anything that was not made this week is old news.

It is getting on in it's days now, but calling it a retro console just seems ubsurd to me. You can still buy brand new PS2's in the shops at the moment.

Yeah that's im saying , it wasn't very long ago that they stop making games for it.

then i dont think there is any question to whether PS2 is retro or not.

Even if they wern't still making games for it, it's still far too young to be considered retro. There is no generation of gaming in between the PS2 and the comtempery generation. Therefore, it's just a father platform at the moment, as opposed to being a grandfather.
